Denver artist and teacher, Sandra Kaplan, and eight of her students are featured in an exhibition entitled “I Paint, Therefore I Am” at the eventgallery 910Arts, at 910 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, from March 5 through April 12.

Curated by Kaplan, the show includes her works along with the paintings of Terry Buswell, Elke, Lynn Feiger, Matt P. Hardwick, Kathy Knaus, Suzanne Mills Kramer, Tina Rowe and Katherine Smith Warren.

“The artists of ‘I Paint, Therefore I Am’ share a strong visual sense, an individual personal view of the world and clarity about image and color,” says Kaplan. “These artists have studied with me and it has been my joy to watch them emerge as accomplished, mature painters.”

The exhibition opens on March 5, First Friday Art Walk Night, with the artists attending, from 6 to 9 p.m. During the evening the Aerial Fabric Acrobats perform.

The brain disorder known as autism takes a prominent role in the exhibition because one of the participating artists has the autism-related Asperger’s Syndrome and so the Autism Society of Colorado has been selected to benefit from sales of artwork on Friday, March 19. The fundraiser takes place from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. The artists will once again be attending and the evening includes a wine tasting, musical entertainment and silent auction.

“The Horse Boy,” a 90-minute documentary about parents who take their autistic son to Mongolia in search of ways to help him connect with the world, is the feature on Fourth Thursday Film Night, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. Filmmaker, teacher and film critic Robert Denerstein introduces the film and leads a post-film discussion. Fourth Thursday Film Night at the eventgallery 910Arts is presented in collaboration with Transition Denver. The showing is always free and open to the public; however, contributions are welcome.

On Saturday, March 27, the “I Paint, Therefore I Am” artists host a classic afternoon tea from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Along with teas and treats, the afternoon offers informal presentations and artist demonstrations.

Unless otherwise noted, all scheduled events during the run of “I Paint, Therefore I Am” are free and open to the public.

Located in the heart of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe, the eventgallery 910Arts is housed within the creative community known as 910Arts. It is a complex of 17 artists’ studios and galleries, 8 live-work lofts and the Studio 6 Coffee House, anchored by a colorful open-air courtyard. Besides being an exhibition space, the eventgallery 910Arts is a venue for meetings, parties, workshops and retreats and it hosts music, literary and film events.
