Andy Berg - Unio Mentalis

(from the press release)

Andy Berg's abstract paintings are confident and vigorous. The layered works, both large and small, employ extravagant mark-making; alternately aggressive, hesitant, ugly and facile. There is a great deal of play when Berg paints, and an effort to connect to the unconscious; the Surrealist concept of 'automatism' is a precursor to this work.

Andy Berg has been painting since graduating from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1983. For 30 years he has painted only for himself, this is his first public exhibit. Andy moved into Ironton in the spring of 2008 and these paintings are the result of his time at Ironton.

"It’s all a process of looking inside and valuing the individual experience of Reality. All change in society comes from each individual one at a time looking deep into the abyss and separating itself from the collective."- Andy Berg
