Nicole Banowetz explaining her works to students
Micro Cosmos focuses on artwork inspired by microbiology created by DAVA (Downtown Aurora Visual Arts) youth, along with guest artist Nicole Banowetz.
This spring, DAVA students used microscopes to discover the worlds of microorganisms. Artistic Petri dishes and cellular installations were created by middle/high school students. Younger artists experimented with microscopic shapes and images. This exhibit is part of our theme for 2018: Crosscurrents in the Arts and Sciences, showcasing the artistic intersections between science with the arts.
Colorado based artist Nicole Banowetz exhibits her works internationally. Her giant inflatable fabric sculptures, inspired by microscopic forms such as algae and viruses, invade indoor and outdoor spaces. Her inflatable sculptures will be displayed as part of the exhibit. Additional pieces will pop up outside of the building for the opening night only. Nicole shared her artistic process and her interest in the positive and negative qualities of microscopic life forms with youth at DAVA.
