EUPHOTIC will expand on Courtney's current body of work exploring and documenting the fragility of our water environment, whale and material sustainability. EUPHOTIC exists as an interwoven memory, an exploration of materiality, and a poetic understanding of light as an extension of both architecture and object in environmental record.

The Euphotic Zone is the depth of water in the ocean where light exists and allows for healthy growth of plant life and aquatic species. It is also one of the heaviest zones effected by increased nitrogen run off, leading to a lack of oxygen sufficient enough for these species to survive. The result is often seen in striking images of mass fish die-offs, or large aerial views of algae blooms, and warning signs that read "DO NOT SWIM" "WATER TOXICITY LEVELS HIGH TODAY". This work is a reflection of this zone, a place where generations of fishing communities continue their life ways and relationships to the natural resources to which their cultural landscapes affords through local harvesting and means of subsistence. Woven with clay as a material that when fired exists within a framework of fragility similar to that of the fragility of our environment.
